The 12 Commandments of Caring for Virgin Hair
1. Be sure to brush and detangle your hair before your wrap it up for bed and before you wash it to
ensure there are no reoccurring tangling happening.
2. Be sure to use a wide tooth comb to detangle hair when it is wet. Wet hair is more susceptible
to breaking due to the breaking of the hydrogen bonds, which reconnect when hair is dry.
3. Use sulfate free shampoos. Sulfates strips hair of its natural oils and have no direct supply of
nutrient from your extensions nor your scalp. Avoiding sulfate shampoos will assist in keeping
the hair from drying out.
4. Wash the hair gently in a downward motion with the palms of your hands. Avoid scrubbing or
bunching the hair strands together for it will cause severe tangling dryness. You also may risk
roughing up the cuticle which will cause the hair to feel dry and frayed to the touch.
5. Use a natural oil, like coconut oil, almond oil or argon oils. Natural oils, especially oils from nuts
have a lot of nourishing benefits for your natural hair and extensions and will promote hair
growth.
6. Allow the hair to air dry as much as possible.
7. When using a hot tool for styling, always use a heat protectant, and use the tool down the hair
strand, never blow dry or flat iron up the hair strand.
8. When detangling, start from the bottom and work your way up, this will help minimize shedding
and breakage.
9. Always, Always, Always wrap the hair in a silk scarf or bonnet.
10. Wash the hair 1 to 2 times a week.
11. Use warm water when washing the hair-never hot.
12. Treat your extension like your very own hair.
